Our Vision

In the summer of 2024, Kevin and Sarah led a team of young adults on a short-term mission trip to North Idaho to help another church in the area. It was on that trip that God opened their eyes to the need for more Bible-centered Baptist churches in the region, and specifically, in the Coeur d'Alene area. From that time, they began praying to see if God could use them to help fill that need. After traveling back out a couple more times to survey the area, it became clear that God was in fact calling them to start this new work in the heart of Coeur d'Alene.

The vision is for Beacon to be a New Testament, independent Baptist church in the heart of this thriving city.

All that the church does will flow from four main distinctives:

o Bible-centered: Every message, ministry, and decision will flow from the unchanging truth of the Word of God and the transforming power of the Gospel.

o Spirit-led: An empowered church where the members live out their faith boldly.

o Community-focused: The church won't just meet in Coeur d'Alene; it will be a church for Coeur d'Alene. It is to be a beacon of light and hope for this community.

o Discipleship-driven: A church passionate about helping people grow in their faith, equipping them to live as devoted followers of Jesus who in turn make disciples.

Meet the Hazletts

Meet the Hazletts

Kevin was saved at age six after riding a church bus to Vacation Bible School in a small town in NW Pennsylvania. Just a couple years later, his parents trusted Christ, and God began to radically change their home. It was at camp as a teenager that he surrendered to God’s call on his life to preaching ministry. He would go on to graduate from Massillon Baptist College with a Bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry.

Sarah was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She was raised in a caring, moral home, but only attended church periodically, and never remembered hearing a clear presentation of the gospel. At the age of 19, while attending a youth rally as a counselor, she accepted Christ as her Saviour. She graduated from Slippery Rock University and has been an elementary teacher for over fifteen years.

Sarah and Kevin met and were married while attending Slippery Rock Baptist church. After graduation from Bible college, Kevin and Sarah returned to the same church, where Kevin served as the youth pastor, and where their daughter Kaydence came into their lives.
For the last seven years, Kevin and Sarah have been part of Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, under the leadership of Pastor Tim Rabon. Kevin is an associate pastor overseeing the outreach, bus and college ministries. Sarah teaches third grade at Raleigh Christian Academy, Beacon’s church school. Kaydence is now in middle school at RCA.

Kevin and Sarah have had the opportunity to lead numerous short term missions trips, and it was while on one of these trips several years ago that God began to stir in Kevin’s heart the need for more churches to be planted, particularly in the Northwest. That burden has developed into a clear call for the Hazletts to follow the Lord’s leading to plant a church in Coeur D’Alene Idaho.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority in faith and practice. We believe the Word of God has been preserved for the English-speaking language in the King James Version, and it is to be the only version used in any ministry of Beacon Baptist Church for English-speaking people.

God We believe in one true and living God who is the Creator of all things, revealed in the Scriptures as eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary; that He was true God and true man; that He lived a sinless life upon this earth; that He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all mankind; that He rose bodily from the grave on the third day; that He ascended bodily into Heaven where He continues His ministry at the right hand of God as our Advocate and High Priest; in His imminent return to the clouds to catch up His Bride, the church, and that after the seven-year Tribulation He will personally and visibly return to this earth to set up His millennial Kingdom. Holy Spirit We believe that the Scriptures assign to the Holy Spirit all the personality and attributes of God; that this present era of the church is, in a special way, the dispensation of the Holy Spirit; and that His ministry in the world includes reproving, regeneration, indwelling, guiding and empowering those who call on Jesus as their Saviour.

We believe that salvation is a gift of God’s grace; that it is received by repentance and faith, the personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, trusting in His atoning sacrifice at the cross; and that there is no other means of being saved. Furthermore, we believe that God desires to let all people everywhere be saved; but since man has the freedom to choose, God saves only those who repent of their sins and trust Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
